Health for Mothers Sudan
– addressing the maternal health crisis in South Sudan
Maternal health in South Sudan is in crisis. 1 in 50 mothers die in childbirth and this rate is even higher in the remote villages. This is one of the highest in the world yet this is not the tragedy – the tragedy that is that it is so preventable.
Health for Mothers in Sudan was established in 2010 to combat this high maternal mortality through:
- practical training for doctors and midwives
- training for traditional birth attendants (TBA’s)
- the provision of birth kits and training of TBA’s to use them
